About HouseLive
HouseLive provides access to Australian House of Representatives proceedings, both live and historical. During sitting days, follow proceedings in real time through live minutes, captions, and daily program tracking. For past sitting days, browse official documents with links to Hansard and Notice Papers on ParlInfo, and video replays on ParlView.
For the 48th Parliament (July 2025 onwards), Votes and Proceedings are available directly within HouseLive, formatted for easier reading with full-text search. Sitting calendars are available for every parliament since Federation in 1901, with links to official records on ParlInfo.
Live Minutes
Displays the official draft live minutes published by the Department of the House of Representatives during sitting days. These are the same draft minutes available on the APH website, reformatted for easier reading with the daily program alongside for context.
- Updated automatically during sitting hours
- Current proceedings highlighted against the daily program
- Supports both House of Representatives and Federation Chamber
- Draft minutes available during the current sitting week; past weeks link to official records
Live Captions
Captures closed captions from Parliament's own live video broadcast for both the House of Representatives and Federation Chamber. These are AI-generated captions produced by Parliament's broadcasting service – not generated by HouseLive.
- Captions sourced from Parliament's ParlView broadcast stream
- Speaker changes detected via colour coding in the broadcast captions
- Both House and Federation Chamber tracked independently
- Live captions available during the current sitting week
Daily Program
The daily program is sourced from ParlInfo and displayed alongside the minutes. The sitting calendar is from the APH Sitting Calendar.
AI is used to match minute items to the program as they arrive, highlighting where proceedings are up to. This is experimental and may be inaccurate – the daily program is a guide to expected business only and does not update to reflect changes.
HouseDocs
Official parliamentary documents formatted for easier reading and navigation. Votes and Proceedings are rendered directly within HouseLive with full-text search, covering every parliament from Federation in 1901 to the present. Sitting calendars link through to official records on ParlInfo.
- Votes and Proceedings from 1901 to the present with full-text search
- Division (vote) details with member lists
- Proof/final status tracking for the current parliament
- Sitting calendars for every parliament since Federation
- Links to Hansard, Notice Papers, Daily Programs, and ParlView on ParlInfo
Use of AI
HouseLive uses AI (Anthropic Claude) in a limited way to enhance the presentation of parliamentary data:
- Program matching – AI matches each new minute item to the daily program to track where proceedings are up to
- Question Time placement – during Question Time, AI locates where each minutes-listed question starts in the live captions so question markers can be shown in the transcript
AI is not used to generate or modify any of the minutes, captions, or document content. The live captions themselves are AI-generated by Parliament's own broadcasting service (ParlView), not by HouseLive.
Limitations
- Minutes are draft records and may differ from the final Votes and Proceedings
- Captions are AI-generated by Parliament's broadcasting service and may contain errors or miss words
- Speaker identification in captions is based on colour coding, not names, and is not always accurate
- AI-powered program matching and Question Time placement are experimental and may be inaccurate
- There may be gaps during sitting breaks, adjournments, or service interruptions
- Data is sourced from publicly available APH systems which may change without notice
